Root Canals

Inside each tooth is a nerve which runs like a thread down through the root, providing nutrients to the tooth. When the nerve is injured or infected, the tissue dies. If this necrotic tissue isn't removed, it will slowly abscess and cause a painful swelling. A root canal procedure removes the nerve, cleans the root canal and seals it off to prevent further infection. Then the dentist places a crown over the tooth to help make it stronger.
